thisis a poem
for my dog who is 3 years and 4 days old and she has more spirit and intelligence and glee in her than anyone i will ever know. ever. |
thereis
nothing sadder than a dead dog on the side of the road |
picture this:this
basement where i write is lined with books and where there are no books there are dvd's of old movies and where there are no old movies there's a refrigerator filled with beer and a cabinet filled with wine put in a bathroom and i could easily live down here, but then, there's the dog, the world and you. |
“John Yamrus doesn't have to jump over fences with fancy language to grab your attention. In easy, honest words, his dog poems in BARK take you for a walk through love and loyalty, the joy of true companionship and the sorrow of loss. They give more than they take, much like man's best friend. And they have plenty of bite.”
—John Burroughs, The Eater of the Absurd
“I just finished reading BARK and John Yamrus has done it again! Likely my favorite among many of Yamrus’ outstanding works...The poems feel personal to me and I imagine that readers, especially those who own pets, will know exactly what Yamrus is saying. What a touching tribute to dogs!”

“Dear John Yamrus, I just received my copy of BARK in the mail, and I sat down and read it immediately! What a beautiful tribute to your beloved Abby and all dogs! It is especially meaningful to me since my own precious Gracie is now 13, and I know that I will have to face the inevitability of her leaving us in the not so distant future as well. I know I can turn to your book for solace as well when that time comes. Thank you for writing this book! I loved it!”
